Maintenance Manager

Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations of our first-of-its-kind plant for phosphorus recycling. This facility is in Schkopau (Sachsen-Anhalt) and utilizes a completely new technology for recovering raw materials from ash generated at incineration of sewage sludge.

Job description

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing the maintenance strategy for an entirely new production technology, including what maintenance resources should be inhouse versus outsourced.
  • Setting up a complete maintenance management system (CMMS) including maintenance plans and routines as well as spare part handling.
  • Developing and manage maintenance budget for the plant.
  • Recruiting, leading and mentoring the maintenance team in an innovative, safety-driven environment.
  • Establishing, and maintaining, needed service contracts for the plant in general and for specific plant equipment.
  • Establishing best practices for predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on the plant equipment.
  • Collaborating with plant operations and engineering team to create and refine maintenance processes for the new, first of its kind, chemical plant.
  • Establishing routines for inspections and certifications needed for the plant equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with stringent safety and environmental regulations.

The Maintenance manager will be part of the Plant Management Team (PMT), lead by the Plant manager. The PMT consists of operation, lab, maintenance and process development.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in maintenance management, preferably in a chemical or manufacturing setting
  • Strong expertise in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Hands-on experience in implementing CMMS, predictive maintenance, and reliability programs
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt to new equipment with minimal historical data
  • Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, or related field)
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead a team in start-up situations as well as steady state operations
  • Required Language Skills:
    • Fluent in German
    • Speaks and writes well in English

About Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau

Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau (PGS) is a joint venture between Easymining (owning 75%) and Gelsenwasser (owning 25%). The purpose of the joint venture is to establish and scale up the Ash2Phos-technology in Germany.

In the Ash2Phos-technology, phosphorus as well as iron and aluminium are recycled from incinerated sewage sludge. The products produced are pure products, replacing virgin conventional products. Recovery of phosphorus will be legally required in Germany by 2029 for all large wastewater facilities.

In 2021, Phoshorgewinnung Schkopau GmbH was formed by GELSENWASSER AG and EasyMining Services Sweden AB to build the first Ash2Phos-plant.
